Simon Abney-Hastings is an Australian Earl, and since 2012, through laws of succession, is the current holder of one of the oldest Scottish noble titles, Earl of Loudoun. Non-competitively, she has been asked, alongside a few other Scottish Adult dancers, to participate in the only virtual Scottish Highland Games ever held at Braemar in 2021. She has previously won the Adult Scottish Games Area Finals, the Aboyne Highland Games, and special commemorative event on their 150th year, which was extra significant. Last year was particularly important to her as she gained first place in every event. As well as winning overall Adult in 2017, 2019, and 2022. Other significant highlights for her are dancing in front of HRH Queen Elizabeth for many years at the Royal Braemar Gathering. In 2018, she became the Champion of Champions of Australia which is a day she will never forget. ![]() She gained her first Premiership win in Atlanta, Georgia, and also won the solo choreography section at the same event. Her first Open Championship win was the United Kingdom Championship held in Edinburgh. Throughout this time, she has won many championship and premiership titles in all ages and has been in three world lineups, including 5th in the Adult World Championship. In 2008, she qualified for her first World Championship Final and has since qualified for thirteen consecutive years: in the Juvenile, Junior, and now Adult Finals. Over the course of the year, she competes regularly at Championships, Premierships, and competitions all over Scotland. Highland dancing has brought her immense opportunities and experiences that she otherwise never would have had. She remains ever grateful to her Mum for this. She started dancing at the age of two, but at six years old, her Mum decided to put her and her sister into highland dance classes, as she felt they would enjoy a more technical dance style.
