![]() I am not a Registered Professional Engineer, but over my 30 year career I hired many PE's to sign and seal my system designs. Being a septic system installer made me a better system designer. You can always do it right the second ee! It was a good option to try for folks that didnt have the land for another seepage bed, or the money for a sand mound! I could go into a situation like the post starter has, and pump it out, give it a terra lift.maybe 30 holes for 600 sq. You just had to be very careful where you used it. I could never get them out to the job site, or listen to ideas!ĭid you have any experience with Terra lifting? I used one for about a year with some great results. I ran the service end of both places, and the engineers sat on their high horses when it came to system design. I only wish we had your services designing systems. I worked for Earth Care, and Perna.2 of the largest septic Companies in my area. John has NO idea what He's talking about!. If you would like to view some photographs of a typical alternating leach field system send your request W. Also a SIM-TECH brand septic tank effluent filter (bottle brush type) should be installed in the outlet tee of the septic tank. The risers should come to the ground surface so that they are easily accessable to service the tank. Twenty-inch diameter Tuf-Tite plastic risers with gasketed lids should be installed over the inlet end access hole and the outlet end access hole of the septic tank. I recommend also that improvements be made to the septic tank. Celebrate your independence from the sewer grid, but with this independence comes the responsibility of a septic system operator. The septic tank effluent flow should be diverted to the alternate field annually on SEWAGE INDEPENDENCE DAY, July 4th. Yes, that is correct, we are doubling the soil surface absorption area of the system. Twenty standard chambers are the equivalent to a 600 sq. So I recommend that 20 standard chamber units be installed in the new alternate leach field. How many chambers do you need? In Colorado, the equivalency formula is as follows.ģ00 sq. ![]() The chambers should also be covered with a geotextile material (porous landscaping fabric) to prevent migration of the soil fines into the void under the chambers (siltation). The chamber trench should have monitoring and ventilation ports on the end units of the new leach field trench or bed configuration. I recommend the use of Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS)Bio-Diffuser Chamber leach field material. Then install a new leach field of equivalent size to the existing leach field. So, what to do? Install an alternating leach field system consisting of a National Diversified Sales (NDS) diversion valve or alternater valve (a plug type valve) in the existing pipeline between the septic tank and the existing leach field. The only way to control the thickness, and therefor the permeability of the clogging mat is to stop applying septic tank effluent to the field for an extended period of time. The level of the septic tank effluent in the leach field may not have been surfacing, but it was higher in elevation than the outlet elevation of the outlet tee. The backflow into the septic tank from the leach field after the tank was pumped was caused by the saturated leach field. The water will flow in the path of least resistence. ![]() Eventually, it will surface at the leach field or it will back-up into the septic tank, and potentially back-up into the house plumbing. When this occurs, the level of the sewage effluent starts to rise in the leach field. At some point in time, the percolation rate through the clogging mat is less than the application rate of the septic tank effluent. As the clogging mat gets thicker, the percolation rate through it is gradually diminished. The thickness of the clogging mat, which is formed at the gravel/soil interface, controls the rate of percolation of the septic tank effluent being applied. It is an inherent characteristic of a single leach field to ultimately fail.
